Ok, you have bought your new board and want to know how to get up on
it. Here are a few tips to help you get going. Please read the notes at
the bottom of the page for newcomers to the sport.
|
|
You need to be lying on the board directly behind the boat with the
tip of the board just out of the water. You should hold the handle with
a palm down grip and position it at the top of the knee wells on the
pad. The strap should be resting at the top of the pad next to your
hands. If you are able to hold onto the strap with your thumbs then this
will stop in sliding back down the board as you start off. Your elbows
should be bent and tucked in, making your head and shoulders positioned
over the handle. |
So now you are in position and ready to go. The driver should do a
nice steady pull away; it’s not like pulling a slalom skier out of the
water so a slow start is needed. When the boat starts pulling away you
should point your backside towards the sky. This movement brings your
knees onto the bottom of the board where you can begin to move them up
into the knee wells. You should keep pressing down with your hands on
the top of the pad whenever you want to move on the board. This is used
to stabilise the board as you move your weight around.
You should now be in a position similar to getting ready to start a
100-metre race. Hands and handle on the top of the pad pressing down,
knees on the base of the pad. Now you need to start moving your knees up
the board and into the knee wells. You must continue to press down on
the board until you have your knees in position.
Once you are on the board, have your knees in the knee wells, you can
lift the loosened strap over your knees and tighten it up so it is
comfortable. If you are reading this it is likely you are new to the
sport so please take time to look at the notes below.
Notes:
If you are new to kneeboarding and haven’t done it before please
spend some time practicing undoing the strap. You must ensure you are
able to do this without looking at the board. The reason I say this is
when you first fall or let go of the handle while strapped in, the board
is likely to turn you upside down. Adults and especially children may
panic in this situation if they cannot get out of the board, this may
result in them being put off the sport. I would suggest not using the
strap until you are used to getting up. The driver should remember this
is not a skier so a slow start is required.
