Having your head in the clouds isn't always a bad thing. Everyone can
jump the wake but how do you get that little bit of extra height?
Hopefully these few tips will help you on your way upwards.
To do some of the harder tricks you need to be able to get some good
height off the wake. Believe it or not it is sometimes easier to go high
by hitting the wake backwards, for example when doing a wake 540 front.
To get the height off the wake you need to cut right out into the
flats along side the boat. Now this is where many people make the first
mistake. You need to start a nice easy gradual turn towards the wake.
You do NOT need a hard aggressive turn, this will result in
uncontrollable speed and you will pull the boat around enough to distort
the wake formation, especially if you are using a pole.
So now you are head towards the wake you should gradually increase
your edge. Use as much of the edge as possible, if you sit back on the
board you will not be making full use of it.
Now for the tough bit, you need to be edging as hard as you can in
the trough before the wake. Drop down into the dip, edge as hard as you
can, keep the handle down low and feel the pressure build up on that
line. This is called loading the line. You need to continue to edge to
the top of the wake and you will be launched skywards.
Keep practising this technique and then you can fine-tune your
approach to suit the trick you are going to do.
You need to remember to keep your head up when you get up there,
looking down will result in a wicked crash!
