This trick is a flip with half twist, which looks harder than it
really is. You just need to be confident with your back rolls, honest!
There really isn't much to this one, it’s mainly down to timing, when
you should release your hand from the handle and turn your head.
You can do this trick be letting go with either hand, rotating either
way, but I will explain how I, and the guys I know, do it.
If you come into the wake from the left side of the boat, with the
wake on your right, you need to release your left hand from the handle.
You should initiate your back roll as usual, as you leave the top of the
wake and start your rotation, let go with your left hand and pull your
right hand into your right hip. This action makes the half twist
movement without too much effort. Make sure you keep your right hand
into your hip to stop you being pulled over the back of the board when
you land.
That's it, all you have to do is practice it. If you find yourself
landing on your back, wait a bit longer before you let go with your left
hand. This will make sure you are further round on your back roll and
make you turn backward. If you can time it right you can get upside down
and then stall out the turn, which gives the trick a lot more style.
