This is your first stepping-stone in learning the tricks on the trick
list. This is a nice, simple and easy trick to start with.
The aim is to get the board travelling sideways, a 90-degree turn
from the forward position, hence the name “Side Slide”. Handle position
is very important as always, you should have the handle low and in
towards your body. To make the turn you should gently pull the handle
into your hip, right hip for a left turn and vice versa, and turn your
head in the direction you want to turn. You must make sure this is a
smooth motion, as the handle comes in to the hip you will be turning
your head to look at the horizon at the side you are turning to.
Once you have managed to complete a side slide in one direction you
should go on to try it in the other direction. When you can do both you
can do them one after the other in opposing directions. This will help
you get used to using them ready for a trick run. You MUST remember to
pause briefly between each one; otherwise you do a windscreen/windshield
wiper motion, which will not score in a competition. Now move on to the
