The surface 360 back to back is the next step from the 180-degree
turn. The back to back is basically the 180’s put together into one
movement. You should be comfortable with completing 180 front to back
and back to fronts in both directions.
The first stage to completing the trick is to do a surface 180 to the
back, holding on with both hands as described in the surface 180 tip.
Now you are facing the back you will be pulled round to the front as
normal and as this happens you begin on working on looking over your
opposite shoulder. This will initiate the turn in the opposite
direction. When the board approaches the forward facing position you
should start to pull your hands into your hip to continue the rotation
round into the back position again. It is important not to stop when you
face the boat, you must continue moving round, if you pause you will do
4 180’s instead of a 180, 360 and 180.
Ok, so now you have managed to turn all the way round, are looking at
the bank behind the boat and have the handle on your hip, you can let
the boat pull you back to the forward position.
Now you can try to do 2 successive 360 back to backs. This is done by
completing the first back to back, then as the boat pulls you to the
front you continue all the way round to face the back.
So it goes something like this: -
180 to the back
360 to the back
360 to the back
180 to the front
This is all done without letting go of the handle with either hand at
any time.
