If you are looking at this trick for the first time, make sure you
can do a wake front before attempting this one. The wake front is a
building block you need to complete and be happy with before progressing
on to this.
Before you attempt it I would suggest you practice some wake fronts
and try to land outside of the wake. This will mean that you will have
that little extra speed needed.
Start your cut in and turn into the backward position just before the
trough at the bottom of the wake. When you go down the dip before the
wake starts rising sit or slouch down hard on your heels. This technique
helps push the board into the wake and pop you off the top, giving you a
little extra height.
When you feel yourself starting to leave the top of the wake, sit up
and swing your head round to look over your opposite shoulder. This
starts the all-important rotation. To help you spin faster, keep your
hands down at waist level and when you move your head round, pull your
hands round to the your opposite hip. This will make sure you get round
to the backward position. Keep looking at the horizon when you are
backwards, this keeps your head up.
Right, now the hard part is out of the way, all you have to do is
land, backwards. If you have timed it just right you will land on the
downside of the wake and you'll have a nice soft landing. The boat will
pull you round to the front and you're ready to try it from the opposite
side. If you land further outside of the wake, get ready for a bit of
bouncing around. Just hang in there and let the boat pull you to the
front.
Troubleshooting
Problem : I land in the side slide position on the other side of the
wake.
Solution: Your nearly there, remember to pull round with your hands
at the same time as looking over the opposite shoulder.
Problem : When landing I stuff the tail of the board in the water and
I go out the back.
Solution : Lean forward over the front of the board when you land to
keep the tail out of the water
